Valli Opticians Invests £100k on New Technology
Valli Opticians, which has six practices across Huddersfield and Calderdale, has invested £100k on state of the art technology in the last three months.
The company has purchased two Ocular Coherence Tomography machines (OCT), which does a 3D scan of the hidden layers of your eyes to spot eye health and general health conditions early. The machines are more commonly found in hospitals.
The £100k investment also includes an Intuitive Colorimeter machine, which is being used by Valli Optometrists to identify unique precision coloured lenses for people who suffer from visual stress, a photosensitive condition that is often the cause of poor reading.
Valli Opticians managing director Moin Valli said: “Making such a large investment in the latest technologies is part of our commitment to provide our local communities with the very best in professional eye care.
“The OCT is an advanced eye scan for people of all ages. Similar to ultrasound, OCT uses light rather than sound waves to illustrate the different layers that make up the back of the eye. It captures a digital photograph of the surface of the eye at the same time and this can then be cross referenced across any areas of concern.”
Meanwhile the Intuitive Colorimeter machine is being used to help people with visual stress, which simply explained is sensitivity to bright lights and visual patterns.
“The condition can cause visual perception problems that interfere with reading,” Moin explained. “Visual stress is not dyslexia but many dyslexics do suffer from the problem. Symptoms of visual stress can be confused with those of dyslexia and wrong identification of the problem can lead in some instances to children being wrongly labeled and treated inappropriately.
“Lots of children and adults have the condition which leads them to suffer from visual discomfort when reading. It can affect fluency, concentration and comprehension as well as causing tiredness. The symptoms of visual stress can include movement or blurring of printed text and patterns appearing in the print, sometimes described as rivers. Not surprisingly, headaches and eyestrain can often occur as a result.”
Valli Group is an award winning, independent local company which owns Valli Opticians practices in Meltham, Lockwood, Honley and Mytholmroyd, alongside S D Haigh Opticians in Almondbury and Mamtora Opticians in Hebden Bridge. The company also runs a domiciliary eye care business and a corporate eye care business.
