An OCT (optical coherence tomography) scan provides a three dimensional cross section scan of the retina, similar to an ultrasound scan. It can also provide a scan of the cornea which is the front transparent window of the eye. With an OCT, you can detect things that are not always visible in a retinal image or with conventional retinal examination methods.
