A firm of opticians is rallying round to support the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice’s latest fundraising drive.

Valli Opticians, which has branches in Huddersfield, the Calder Valley and Wakefield, is hosting the Valli 500 on Thursday May 15, an evening of high octane fun for a good cause.

Held at the Lewis James prestige car showroom in Huddersfield, competitors will race each other on a driving simulator for a place in the final, with the overall winner taking home a pair of designer sunglasses from Valli’s latest Mercedes Benz and Porsche Design eyewear range.

Drivers can enjoy pit-stops of beer and butties between races.

The evening will raise cash for the hospice’s Forget Me Not 500 appeal, but will also be something of a warm-up for Valli managing director Moin Valli, as he is taking part in the race itself.

The hospice is giving participants £500 to buy an old banger, and in return their challenge is to raise £3,000 for the charity. It sets out from Huddersfield on June 12 and heads to Paris then Le Mans via the Hull to Rotterdam ferry, with a few crazy challenges along the way.

Moin said: “We hope our Valli 500 will bring out the boy racer in everyone while raising money for an excellent cause.”

Tickets for the Valli 500 are £15 and are available from Eventbrite on http://valli500.eventbrite.co.uk.  For more information please email info@valliopticians.co.uk or call 01484 533730.
