A new member of the family – AJ Spurrett Opticians Blackburn
Valli’s acquisition of A H Merton group in November 2015 effectively doubled the number of practices in the group. With the newest members of the team now settling down into the Valli family, we would like to make a start on introducing some of them. AJ Spurrett Opticians, Blackburn has provided the town and the surrounding area with an unfaltering range of first class eye-care services for over 25 years.
The practice is based in the business area of Blackburn in the town centre on Richmond Terrace. Conveniently placed, with easy access and plenty of car parking, AJ Spurrett Opticians has built up an excellent reputation in first class customer care. The practice carries a fabulous range of handpicked frames covering both branded and non-branded products. Add to that the tasteful and relaxing surroundings of the store along with the approachable nature of its staff and you’re onto a winner.
We’re very excited to introduce you to our new members. Each of them brings new talent to help our clients with all their optical needs.
Joanne Johnson – Practice Manager and Dispensing Optician
Enthusiastic and bubbly Joanne has over sixteen years experience in the Optical Industry. She is a registered Dispensing Optician and she has covered many roles over the years. Joanne’s main passion is customer care, she excels at providing high quality dispensing and is proud to provide all her patients with a first class customer journey. Joanne’s aim is to ensure that all her clients are always delighted and remain loyal to the business. Joanne has a great deal of ambition and is always working to improve her skills, most recently qualifying as an Assessor for Optical Retailing.
In her spare time Joanne is an accomplished cornet player and holds a Masters in Performance with distinction from Salford University. She has played competitively for championship section brass bands including Milnrow Band, and The Pemberton Old Wigan DW Band.
Jo Morykin – Optical Dispenser
With over 21 years experience in the optical industry, dispenser Jo Morykin has worked at AJ Spurrett for over 6 years, so there’s not a lot that she doesn’t know about glasses.
Jo is always happy to lend a hand with frame selection and she has a broad knowledge of lenses and contact lenses too.
An avid reader, Jo loves settling down with a nice historic novel to while away the hours. Her current read is Lamentation by C. J. Sansom.
Lynn Heatley – Receptionist
Lovely Lynn has worked at AJ Spurrett Opticians for over 20 years and seen many changes along the way. Lynn’s is the friendly voice at the end of the phone, and she is happy to assist however she can.
Lynn’s hobbies include interior design and walking her daughter’s dog.
Lucy Cooper – Receptionist
The baby of the family, Lucy joined the team at AJ Spurrett Opticians in 2012. The creative member of the team, Lucy studied a foundation degree in Art and Design at Blackburn college.
Lucy’s hobbies include painting (acrylic and watercolour) and drawing. She is currently painting a large canvas for Lynn’s new house
Derek McPhee – Optometrist
Derek graduated from Cardiff University in 1993. With over 20 years experience, he has worked in both private practice and hospital eye clinics. At his previous hospital post, Derek specialised in paediatric eye care and adult low vision (magnifiers and significant sight loss).
Since qualifying in 1994, Derek has maintained a keen interest in studying. He completed his Masters in Optometry in 2002 and also holds a higher diploma in Orthoptics (eye movement disorders). Derek particularly enjoys the challenge of complex cases.
