Happy Birthday to us – Valli Opticians is ten years old

2015 is a big year for Valli Opticians, and April is a particularly big month in which we turned ten years old.

On the 5th April 2005, Moin and Rachel Valli laid the foundation of what has become a countywide business. Valli Opticians began with the purchase of three optical practices in the Huddersfield area. Now entering its tenth year the group has grown to include ten sites, with eight practices stretching from Hebden Bridge to Hull, a home domiciliary eye care division, Valli Home Eye Care and a corporate eye care business, Valli Co-optic.

Valli Opticians was born just 51 days after Youtube was founded, and just 10 days after “Dr Who” returned to our screens. Other notable launches in 2005 were, Alan Sugar’s “The Apprentice” which aired for the first time in February and The Huffington Post, founded by Arianna Huffington on May 10th.

In the past ten years we have:

Performed over 75,000 eye tests,

Dispensed over 45,500 pairs of spectacles,

Fitted over 170,000 contact lenses,

Sent in excess of 175,000 reminder letters,

and made over 36,000 cups of tea and coffee for our patients!

Valli Opticians Group now employs 28 people across ten locations in West and East Yorkshire.

Our practice in Honley, Holmfirth, has recently been shortlisted for two awards at the prestigious Optician Awards 2015, in recognition of its services to optics. Valli Group, was a previous winner of this award in 2013 and this year Honley has been shortlisted for both the ‘Independent Practice of the Year’ award and the ‘Enhanced Service’ award. The winners of the Optician Awards will be announced on Saturday 18th April at a glittering ceremony at the Hilton Metropole in Birmingham. To win would be a fantastic way to celebrate our tenth anniversary year!
