During Dementia Awareness Week (May 18-24) Valli Opticians is highlighting the importance of eye care for people with the condition.

Moin Valli, managing director of the Valli Opticians group which has seven practices in Huddersfield, Calderdale and Wakefield, said it was important that a person’s eyesight was not overlooked when they had health conditions such as dementia.

He said: “Dementia is a cruel and heart-breaking condition not only for those suffering from it but for their loved ones too. Because of their dementia patients may not be able to tell anyone they have a problem with their eyes. It is vital that patients have access to eye care services whether they are able to visit a community practice or are confined to their own home or care home. Improving a patient’s vision and eye health can make a dramatic difference to their quality of life.”

In recognition of the need for eye care services for people who were unable to leave their homes because of health conditions Valli Opticians provides a free domiciliary eye care service. Valli optometrists visit people in their home or care home to provide comprehensive eye tests and eye health care plans using the latest mobile comprehensive eye testing equipment including computers and iPads.

Moin added: “We launched the service because serving our communities means everything to our company. Domiciliary eye care services are critical to patients who are unable to leave their own home or care home unaided.”

The Valli Group is an award winning, independent local company which owns Valli Opticians practices in Meltham, Lockwood, Honley and Mytholmroyd, alongside S D Haigh Opticians in Almondbury, Mamtora Opticians in Hebden Bridge and Barbara Watson Eye Care in Wakefield. The company also runs its domiciliary eye care business and a corporate eye care business.
