The team at Valli Opticians will be donning their favourite woolly jumpers tomorrow Friday (February 7) in support of Age UK’s Bobble Day.

Staff at the company’s practices in Lockwood, Meltham, Honley, Almondbury, Mytholmroyd and Hebden Bridge will be taking part in the event which is being held to highlight the difficulties faced by older people during the coldest winter months and to stop unnecessary winter deaths.

Moin Valli, managing director of Valli Opticians, said: “I was shocked to hear how many older people die in Britain due to cold weather. Apparently last winter was particularly harsh leading to a 30% increase in preventable deaths – 31,000 older people died due to the cold weather. When we heard this startling figure we wanted to do what we could to support Age UK’s campaign, so we’ll be digging out our wackiest woollies on Friday and we are also selling Age UK woolly bobbles in all our practices to raise funds for this incredible important cause.”

Judith Churley of Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees, said: “We are delighted that Valli Opticians is taking part in Bobble Day. We hope it is a fun way that people can raise awareness and funds for this serious issue and help us look after local older people over winter.”

Valli Group is an award winning, independent local company which owns Valli Opticians practices in Meltham, Lockwood, Honley and Mytholmroyd, alongside S D Haigh Opticians in Almondbury and Mamtora Opticians in Hebden Bridge. The company also runs a domiciliary eye care business and a corporate eye care business.
