Love Your Eyes with Regular Check-Ups

‘Love your eyes’ and have regular check-ups is the message from West Yorkshire based opticians the Valli Group this week, National Eye Health Week (17-23 September).

In a recent survey more than two million people admitted to never having their eyes tested and the Valli Group, which owns seven opticians practices in West Yorkshire including the Hampshire Opticians in Lockwood, Meltham and Honley, S D Haigh Opticians in Almondbury, Huddersfield, Valli Opticians in Mytholmroyd and another independent Opticians in North Kirklees, is campaigning to change this.

Managing Director of the Valli Group Moin Valli said: “Having regular eye examinations should be as much a part of your family’s health routine as visiting the dentist. As part of the Eye Love My Local Independent Optician campaign, we are on a mission to encourage more people to take their eye health seriously. Without regular eye exams, dormant diseases and general health problems can lay undetected and in some cases prove fatal further down the line.

“The health of our eyes is so very important, and as part of the awareness drive around National Eye Health Week we are encouraging local residents to visit their independent community optician and experience the very best in eye care.

“At the Valli Group we are passionate about supporting the local community and promoting the importance of eye health. Part of our commitment is a free domiciliary service to elderly and disabled patients who are unable to visit our practices. We also visit local schools and community groups to deliver talks in order to raise the awareness of eye health.”

As an incentive, over and above the obvious health benefits, practices affiliated to the Eye Love My Local Independent Optician campaign are offering new or existing patients that book an eye exam before the end of National Eye Health Week the opportunity to win an iPad. Practices that are part of the campaign will be identified by a window poster promoting the iPad competition.

The national awareness week, run by Vision Matters, aims to promote the importance of eye health and the need for regular eye tests and is pulling together eye care charities and health professionals from across the UK to persuade people to take their eye health seriously.

In a recent survey* conducted by www.eyelovelocal.co.uk, more than two million people admitted to never having their eyes tested, despite over half thinking they would benefit from an eye test.

*The survey of 2,000 people was commissioned by www.eyelovelocal.co.uk
