Tour de Yorkshire

Valli Opticians staff from 4 practices will get the opportunity to see Yorkshire’s new cycling event up close this weekend. The Tour de Yorkshire starts on Friday 1st May, with three different stages running over 3 days. With stage 3 of the race starting in Wakefield on Sunday 3rd May, there will be plenty to see and do around the City. The Hepworth Wakefield are inviting spectators to join them for a weekend of family fun and outdoor art activities! The race will be passing the gallery garden and visitors to the gallery will get some of the best views of the race, so no doubt some of our team members will be in the crowd cheering on the riders.

Meltham too is marking the occasion and our staff will be able to enjoy a Real Ale Festival & Hog Roast, billed as THE TOUR COMES TO MELTHAM – BIG WEEKEND FUNDRAISER.  Visitors are invited to come to Meltham to watch the Tour come through the Village.  Spectators can also see the rest of the race on a BIG screen, whilst drinking a selection of real ales and eating a fine hog roast. What could be a better way to spend your Sunday afternoon?  All for a great cause, in aid of the Tom Wroe Memorial Fund, we think we know where our team from our Meltham practice will be.

The peloton is expected to reach Calderdale just after 2pm, racing down Cragg Vale and through Mytholmroyd, then onto Hebden Bridge. Visitors will be able to enjoy a cycling stunt show, songwriting workshops, a community picnic and many more exciting activities.

Sir Bradley Wiggins and sprinter Marcel Kittel, who won the first stage of last year’s Tour de France, will be in Wakefield on the starting line with all the teams which have been chosen to compete in the race including Team Sky, British Cycling and former England cricket star Matt Prior’s team One Pro Cycling.

We are all very excited at Valli Opticians and we are looking forward to a fun filled weekend, celebrating all things Yorkshire. Who knows, if the weather is good we may even get to wear our fabulous designer sunglasses? We may even get out on our own bicycles. At Valli Opticians we can supply cycling specific sunglasses, available with or without prescription. So if you are a keen cyclist why not pop in for a chat.
