Valli Opticians have had practices in the Calderdale area since 2009, initially in Mytholmroyd and later also in the market town of Hebden Bridge.

The town of Hebden Bridge quickly developed as a weaving centre during the 19th and 20th centuries due to its location, fast-flowing streams and the number of mills which were built in the area. In fact Hebden became known as “Trouser Town” because of the large amount of clothing manufactured there.

Throughout the Second World War Hebden Bridge was a “reception area” and took in many evacuees from industrial cities who were trying to escape the bombings. The 1970s and 1980s saw an influx of artists to the town, including writers, photographers and musicians. This growth in the artistic population led to a boom in tourism and the area now attracts many visitors to its bohemian streets, with many artisan shops, organic pavement cafés, and inspiring galleries. Hebden Bridge is just moments away from pretty wooded valleys and picturesque heathered moorland.

In July 2003 Hebden Bridge was granted Fairtrade Zone status, and July 2014 saw Stage 2 of the 2014 Tour de France from York to Sheffield pass through the town. This year following on from the success of the Tour de France, Hebden Bridge will see cyclists competing in Stage 3 of the new Tour de Yorkshire.
