Viewing the forthcoming solar eclipse
On March the 20th, between 8.45am and 10.41am, the UK mainland will witness a partial solar eclipse. The sun will be obscured by our moon as it transits across the face of the sun. Between 85% and 94% will be eclipsed depending on whereabouts you are in the UK.
Many newspapers and magazines are offering filters especially for the event or welding glasses can be used. To find out how to view a solar eclipse visit http://www.10tv.com/content/stories/2014/10/22/how-to-watch-partial-solar-eclipse-this-thursday.html.
You can also make a pinhole projector via this link: http://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/make-pinhole-projector.html
It will be a fantastic sight to see but remember to use an approved filter to protect your eyes from the glare of the sun. Even at maximum eclipse, your eyes can suffer serious damage if you to look at it without protecting your eyes. Normal sunglasses will not offer adequate protection. However we do offer a fabulous range of prescription and non-prescription sunglasses at all the Valli Group store in Mytholmroyd, Meltham, Honley and Lockwood. Our branches also include Barbara Watson Eyecare in Wakefield, SD Haigh Opticians in Almondbury, Mamtora Opticians in Hebden Bridge, and Henry J Rose Optometrists in Hull.
We will be enjoying the eclipse here at Valli Group so here’s hoping for good weather and clear skies.
